Origin and Habitat:

Native to the deep, rocky environments of Lake Tanganyika in East Africa, the Frontosa cichlid thrives in stable water conditions with minimal fluctuations.

Physical Characteristics:

  • Size: Adult Night Star Frontosas can reach up to 12 inches (30 cm) in length.

  • Coloration: This variant is noted for its distinctive dark and light banding, with unique pattern variations that set it apart from other Frontosa types.

Aquarium Care:

  • Tank Size: A minimum of 75 gallons is recommended for a single adult, with larger tanks required for groups to accommodate their size and swimming needs.

  • Water Parameters: Maintain temperatures between 75°F to 79°F (24°C to 26°C), pH levels of 8.0 to 9.0, and water hardness between 10 to 20 dGH to replicate their natural habitat.

  • Diet: Primarily carnivorous, their diet should consist of high-quality pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like krill, shrimp, and occasional earthworms.

Behavior and Compatibility:

Generally peaceful, Night Star Frontosas can be kept with other similar-sized, non-aggressive cichlids. However, due to their predatory nature, they may consume smaller fish.

Q: I just completed my order, what's next?
A: Before shipment, we quarantine all fish for at least 24-48 hours. During this period, we closely monitor the fish to make sure they are healthy. We also do not feed them during this time in order to 'clean out' their digestive system and limit their ability to soil the water.  This helps reduce the amount of waste in the bag and will keep the water clean.
