The Red OB African Cichlid, commonly known as the OB Peacock Cichlid, is a vibrant and captivating freshwater fish that has become a favorite among aquarium enthusiasts. This hybrid species combines the striking colors of the Peacock Cichlid (Aulonocara species) with the distinctive blotched patterns of Mbuna cichlids, resulting in a unique and eye-catching appearance.
Origin and Hybridization: The OB Peacock Cichlid is not a naturally occurring species but a man-made hybrid. It was developed by crossbreeding a male Peacock Cichlid with a female Mbuna cichlid, leading to the "OB" (Orange Blotch) pattern. This selective breeding has produced fish with a predominantly red or pink body adorned with irregular dark blue or black blotches, making each individual’s pattern unique.
Physical Characteristics:
Behavior and Temperament: OB Peacock Cichlids are known for their relatively peaceful demeanor compared to other African cichlids. However, males can become territorial, especially during breeding periods. They are active swimmers and prefer the mid to bottom regions of the aquarium.
Tank Requirements:
Diet: As omnivores, OB Peacock Cichlids thrive on a varied diet. High-quality cichlid pellets should form the staple of their diet, supplemented with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms. Incorporating vegetable matter like spirulina-based flakes can enhance their coloration and overall health.
Breeding: These cichlids are maternal mouthbrooders. The female carries fertilized eggs in her mouth until the fry are ready to swim freely, typically after about three weeks. Providing flat rocks or secluded areas can encourage spawning behavior.
Compatibility: OB Peacock Cichlids can coexist with other similarly sized and tempered African cichlids. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive species to prevent stress and potential conflicts.
The Red OB African Cichlid's stunning appearance and manageable temperament make it an excellent choice for both novice and experienced aquarists seeking to add a splash of color to their freshwater setups.

Q: I just completed my order, what's next?
A: Before shipment, we quarantine all fish for at least 24-48 hours. During this period, we closely monitor the fish to make sure they are healthy. We also do not feed them during this time in order to 'clean out' their digestive system and limit their ability to soil the water. This helps reduce the amount of waste in the bag and will keep the water clean.
Q: When can I expect my order to be ship?
