OB Lwanda Peacock (Aulonocara sp. "Lwanda" OB)

The OB Lwanda Peacock is a stunning cichlid species admired for its vibrant, multi-colored appearance. Native to the rocky shores of Lake Malawi, this fish combines the eye-catching features of the Lwanda Peacock with unique "OB" (orange blotch) patterning, making it a standout choice for aquarium enthusiasts.

Quick Facts:

  • Size: Typically grows up to 5-6 inches in length.
  • Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa.
  • Tank Requirements: A minimum of 55 gallons is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and mimic their natural habitat.
  • Environment: Best suited to rocky aquariums with plenty of hiding spaces, along with open areas for swimming.
  • Water Conditions: Ideal temperature range is 74-84°F, with a pH of 7.4-8.4, and hard water.
  • Diet: Primarily carnivorous, they enjoy a variety of high-quality pellets or flakes, with occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms to enhance color and health.
  • Behavior: Males can be mildly territorial, especially when breeding. They do best in tanks with other Lake Malawi cichlids of similar temperament, like other Peacock or Haplochromis species, but avoid mixing with more aggressive Mbuna cichlids.
  • Coloration: Males display a vivid mix of blue, red, orange, and yellow, while females are generally more subdued in color.

Care Tips: Regular water changes, a stable diet, and a well-maintained tank environment will keep the OB Lwanda Peacock healthy and vibrant. Due to their unique coloration patterns, no two fish look exactly alike, adding a distinctive charm to any aquarium setup.

Q: I just completed my order, what's next?
A: Before shipment, we quarantine all fish for at least 24-48 hours. During this period, we closely monitor the fish to make sure they are healthy. We also do not feed them during this time in order to 'clean out' their digestive system and limit their ability to soil the water.  This helps reduce the amount of waste in the bag and will keep the water clean.
